Successful energization of Vietnam’s first “Make in Vietnam” 500 kV – 3×300 MVA national-level scientific and technological transformer at the Hoa Binh 500 kV substation

At 22:45 on December 14, 2025, the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) and Dong Anh Electrical Equipment Corporation (EEMC) successfully energized the 500 kV – 3×300 MVA transformer unit at the Hoa Binh 500 kV substation in Phu Tho Province.

The 500 kV – 3×300 MVA transformer unit, designed and manufactured by EEMC, is a product of a national-level science and technology project assigned by the Ministry of Science and Technology. After being rated “Excellent” by the State Acceptance Council and approved by Vietnam Electricity (EVN) for operation, EEMC carried out transportation and installation at position AT2 of the Hoa Binh 500 kV substation. Under the direction of EVNNPT and with close coordination among relevant parties, the transformer unit completed installation, testing, and commissioning on December 8, 2025.

Upon commissioning, the capacity of the Hoa Binh 500 kV substation increased from 900 MVA to 1,350 MVA. This enhancement significantly strengthens transmission capacity, facilitates power evacuation from hydropower plants in the Northwest region, and ensures a stable electricity supply for Hanoi.

Building on this success, EEMC will continue to manufacture and supply 500 kV transformers, working together with EVN to ensure sufficient power supply for the country’s socio-economic development, in line with Politburo Resolutions No. 57 and No. 70.
