In his project report, Mr. Nguyen Vu Cuong – General Director of EEMC – emphasized: With the aim of mastering the design and manufacturing technology of the 500 kV – 3×300 MVA transformer series, which is the largest capacity transformer in the Vietnamese power transmission network currently being imported, EEMC proposed and received approval from the Ministry of Science and Technology to implement the national-level trial production project “Completing the Design and Manufacturing Technology of the 500 kV – 3×300 MVA Transformer Unit.”

Mr. Nguyen Vu Cuong – General Director of EEMC reported on the project’s progress.

With the support of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and through determination and the prioritization of resources, EEMC has implemented many investment projects, such as constructing a 4,000 kV ultra-high voltage laboratory, expanding its factory, and investing in numerous state-of-the-art technological devices—some of which are being applied in Vietnam for the first time.

Since September 2024, EEMC officially began manufacturing the transformer casing, magnetic circuit, and winding sets. The dedicated team of engineers and skilled workers at EEMC worked intensively, overcoming many challenges to complete the dispatch of the 500 kV – 3×300 MVA transformer in early December 2024, with all parameters meeting IEC 60076 standards.

Over its more than 50 years of development, EEMC has consistently affirmed its pioneering position in the electrical mechanical industry, having supplied over 1,130 power transformers ranging from 110 kV to 500 kV to the market. From the first 110 kV transformer produced in 1993, the 220 kV transformer in 2003, to the 500 kV – 3×150 MVA transformer unit in 2010, and now the 500 kV – 3×300 MVA series—the largest transformer series in Vietnam’s power transmission system—EEMC’s successful research and manufacturing of the 500 kV – 3×300 MVA transformer unit confirms the correct policies of the Government, ministries, and the Vietnam Electricity Group in developing key domestic electrical mechanical products, gradually increasing the localization rate, and contributing to ensuring energy security for the country’s socio-economic development.

In his congratulatory speech, Deputy Minister Truong Thanh Hoai acknowledged and highly praised EEMC’s efforts and innovative spirit in focusing on the research, manufacturing, and production of the largest 500 kV transformer for the transmission system. This achievement also demonstrates the innovative spirit and the capability to master science and technology in producing electrical equipment with a distinctive Vietnamese mark.

Deputy Minister Truong Thanh Hoai congratulated and encouraged EEMC.

According to Deputy Minister Truong Thanh Hoai, with the new National Assembly having recently passed the Electricity Law—which mandates that certain items and equipment must be produced domestically—a large market capacity has opened up, along with challenges for electrical mechanical enterprises. Based on this law, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will submit a decree to the Government to meet the target of domestic production for these items and equipment, coupled with support in terms of capital and investment resources. In particular, with the upcoming huge demand for new power sources such as offshore wind power, which is closely linked to national security, it is expected that all equipment will be domestically produced.

Therefore, the Deputy Minister expressed his hope that EEMC will build on its achievements, seize opportunities, and strive further to contribute to the sustainable development of Vietnam’s electricity industry and ensure national energy security.

At the ceremony, Mr. Dang Hoang An – Chairman of the Board of Members of the Vietnam Electricity Group – highly appreciated and congratulated the efforts of the EEMC staff for achieving the remarkable product of the 500 kV – 3×300 MVA transformer. He emphasized that this success once again affirms the tradition of creative labor among EEMC’s employees, who continuously research and develop new products to meet market demands.

He stated that, with over 80% of the 220 kV transformers and 50% of the 110 kV transformers in Vietnam’s power grid being EEMC products, the corporation has helped the Electricity Industry take a proactive role in investment and construction, ensuring electricity supply for socio-economic development. Currently, EEMC is the leading entity in the development of Vietnam’s electrical mechanical industry. Notably, aside from supplying equipment and developing the domestic market, in 2024 EEMC also secured its first export contract for a 132 kV – 70 MVA transformer to the Australian market.

Mr. Dang Hoang An – Chairman of the Board of Members of EVN delivered a speech at the ceremony.

However, with the spirit of “electricity always moving ahead,” the EVN Chairman urged EEMC not to be content with today’s results, but to quickly expand its product portfolio—not limiting itself to traditional products—and shorten the cycle for developing new products to meet the enormous domestic market demand.

At the same time, he emphasized the need to boost marketing efforts and export to international markets on the principle that the products must meet international standards and be highly competitive.

He also suggested that EEMC expand its cooperation with capable partners both domestically and internationally, allocate resources to invest in and upgrade its technological lines and modern equipment to international standards, with special attention given to high-level experts, engineers, and skilled workers.

Chairman An particularly stressed and reminded the corporation, “Achieving this will enable EEMC to make a practical contribution to the implementation of the Party and State’s policy to build an independent, self-reliant, and strong economy.”

Expressing his gratitude for the guidance and support from the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Vietnam Electricity Group, Mr. Nguyen Trong Tieu – Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of EEMC – modestly shared that this is just the initial success for EEMC. The corporation will continue its research to bring higher-quality industrial products to the market. He also expressed deep emotion and gratitude to the dedicated teams of design engineers, technologists, and skilled workers at EEMC who have worked tirelessly to achieve this proud outcome.
